Sunroof issues...i got a free shower today...HELP!

So its been raining all day, I goto leave my house to do a little Christmas shopping, i get in and starter up. I begin to back down my drive way, I hear this sound...its sounded like someone pouring a bucket of water right behind me. I thought nothing of it...then my back began to feel funny. I thought about my sunroof and how it leakes sometimes but nothing to bad. So I look behind me. I was face to face with a soild wall of water comming from my roof, how the sunroof could even hold that much water, I HAVE NO CLUE!!! How much you ask? I ran inside and grabbed a bath towel, came out and tried to soak up the water that had gathered in the rear passenger foot area. I layed it down let it soak, then pulled it back. There was still over a inch of water there, needless to say i needed more towels.

I have no clue what is doing this, I know my front drains on my sunroof seem to work, but are there rear ones? How do i check/clean them? I also heard the sunroof has a seal that can go bad after alot of miles (152k here), do i need a new seal? how hard is that to change? I need any info on this possible its really pissing me off. There is a front and rear drain tube, that's all I can tell you. Get a wet vac.

There are rear drains too. If I remember what my Helm said thay go all the way to the rear corner of the car. You might be able to spot them from under the car and blow them clear with air.

If you decide to stick something in them to clean them, make sure it isn't metal!! (a coathanger being an obvious choice) because it is metal and it will scrape the paint on the inside of the drain pipe and the rust monster will eat it from the inside out. Air ir prolly your best bet, as recommended above.

On my '90 hatch, you can find the rear drain tubes by popping off the access covers on the left and right sides in the rear cargo area. Look/feel around the hole and you will find the clear rubber drain hose. There is also a joint at that point which may help you determine where the clog is.

WOOO got them clean, thank to everyone for their advice it was the rear tubes ( I've seen the front ones work before so I knew they were ok). Here is what I did for future refernece just incase anyone else gets a shower.

Went into the rear cargo area, popped off the access panels in each corner. We have one of those huge up right air compressors that can go up to like 200+ Psi. I set it at 80, attached the air blower thingy and went at it. I pulled each tube out of the holes and out through the covers. Pulled the rubber ends off them. On the drivers side there was some plastic thingy jammed in there, the other side was pure dirt and pine needles. Pulled off both end peices, emtiped the tubed...stuck the air gun in the and gave them a steady blast, blasted the caps as well...put them back in the tube ends all looked good. Lastly I blasted the dump tubes that lead to the outside...everything looked good. Didn't test it yet but i'm sure they are working now.

I'm glad you found the clog(s). Not intending to rain on your parade , but if there was a lot debris in the drain lines, you may have more up in the roof area. I have no helpful suggestions to offer about cleaning that area, other than maybe using a piece of garden hose attached to a vacuum cleaner to get way in there. Anyway, you may want to check those drains periodically.

hehe, i'm pretty sure for the most part they are ok. I do intend to go back and double check them from up in the roof and down in the hatch (more than ever now hehe). But i've had the car out in the rain a few times since then and i've stayed dry...and its snow season now, so hopefully i'll be ok!
